What is CPMS?
Charge Point Management System
A CPMS is the software a charge point operator uses to run its chargers remotely: it connects every charger to one platform to monitor status, start and stop sessions, set tariffs, bill drivers, push firmware updates and fix faults. CPMS, CMS (charging management system) and CSMS all name the same kind of system; CMS is the most common in everyday use.
The core jobs of a CPMS are charger monitoring and remote control, session and tariff management, driver authorisation (app, RFID card or Plug & Charge), billing and payments, reporting, and fault handling. Most also expose the network to roaming partners over OCPI.
A CPMS should be hardware agnostic: it talks to chargers over the open OCPP protocol, so an operator can mix charger brands and change suppliers without changing its software.
