India's Official Peer-to-Peer Energy Trading Trail
India has started a live peer-to-peer (P2P) energy trading pilot that lets consumers sell excess solar power directly to others in their area. This pilot is part of India’s effort to modernize the power market and give everyday users more control over their electricity.
It is running in parts of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, with electricity companies BRPL, TPDDL and PVVNL participating, and supported under national energy innovation frameworks by organisations like REC Ltd.
Here, people with solar panels can sell their surplus clean energy at good prices, and buyers can access cheaper, greener power — all with the approval of the local DISCOMs and regulators.
