What is Charger uptime?
Uptime is the share of time a charger is available and able to charge. It is the main reliability measure for a charging network, and many public funding programmes set a minimum.
How uptime is measured matters: some count only the charger’s own faults, others count every hour a driver could not charge, including communication failures and failed sessions. Public programmes such as the UK’s Public Charge Point Regulations 2023 set a reliability minimum for rapid chargers, so operators need to measure and report it consistently.
