What is Smart charging?

Smart charging adjusts when and how fast vehicles charge, to stay within a site’s grid connection, use cheaper or cleaner energy, or have fleet vehicles ready before departure. OCPP carries the charging limits from the management system to each charger.

Smart charging covers load management within a site, scheduling charging to cheaper or greener hours, and responding to signals from the grid. The management system calculates the limits, and OCPP’s smart charging messages pass them to each charger.
